The Afterglow team was greeted with surprise, sincere gratefulness and many hugs from Laura Walsh and her daughter Skylar.
“The furnace giveaway has become a tradition for us at Afterglow, and we wouldn’t want to be anywhere else than right here giving back!” says Stephen McDonald GM of Afterglow.
Laura Walsh and her nine-year-old Skylar joyously welcomed the Afterglow team into their home this morning (Saturday Dec. 21st). The Walsh’s are the winners of The Second annual Afterglow furnace giveaway. Laura has been struggling month by month to keep up with her 20+ years old furnace. Laura told us, “Last year we went 48 hours with no heat and this year we went 24 hours with no heat”. Their old furnace regularly needed maintenance and each call meant waiting days at a time without heat for parts to come in.
Single mother Laura greeted us at the door of her Cambridge home with hugs and tears: “That’s the nicest Christmas present I could ever get from you. Thank you so much.”
Laura will not be left without heat this Christmas. The Afterglow team installed a brand new high efficiency furnace and a new thermostat within hours. They were also able to fix unsafe electrical wiring, add a new switch on the furnace and replace a cracked gas valve.
To make this giveaway possible, the Afterglow team had many supporters. The high efficiency Tempstar Furnace was donated with support from McKeough Supplier, with thanks to Honeywell thermostat, and sheet metal donated by BMC Sheet metal. The Afterglow team is thankful for all its partners. The estimated cost of this “gift of warmth” was over $5000.
